I have been dying to read Perfect Ruin ever since Lauren announced it was getting published. I've been a tiny bit obsessed about it, saving all the teasers and everything. I just knew I would love this book. And I did. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. It was amazing. It was perfect.
I'm a huge fan of Lauren and I know I will read anything she writes. I loved Perfect Ruin more than the Chemical Garden series, and I loved those books a lot. The writing in this book is stunning. It's just right and it's done so well. I love it when a book I've been dying for ends up being so good. Which this did.
I won't talk too much about the plot in this book because I don't want to spoil anything, even though all I want to talk about is the ending :) But I will not. I will talk about all the amazing characters and this amazing world a little bit. Though I do not know how to start, because I don't think my words can give this book justice. Perfect Ruin is perfect and you all need to read it.
It's told from the point of view of sixteen year old Morgan. She's awesome. I loved reading about her and getting to know her thoughts. I really loved her. I loved reading about her life as well. Her home life is kind of broken at first. Then it just gets more broken for every page. It was heartbreaking. But I loved reading about it so much. We get to know her parents a bit, and I liked her father. I did like her mom too, though I did not like that she took so much medication for her head. It didn't seem very kind of her.
Her brother and his wife live in an apartment right above them. And oh, how I loved reading about Lex and Alice. But my heart broke so much for them. Lex was a Jumper, and because of that he lost his sight three years ago. Won't say more about it, but oh, it was so sad to read about. Lex is still an amazing person, though. He's seven years older than Morgan and they to have a close relationship, for the most part. He isn't the best after his incident. But I still loved him, and I loved him and Alice together.
Morgan's best friend is Pen. Who is also her only friend, because her other friends got all kinds of sucky when her brother jumped. But anyway. Pen is amazing. She's an amazing friend and an even better person. I loved reading about her so much. Wish we had gotten to see her even more. It broke my heart a bit to learn a few things about her home life. But then there is Thomas, her betrothed. He's a sweetheart. I adored him. Not sure how Pen feels about him, but I loved reading about them together.
Morgan also has a betrothed; which is Basil, the love interest. I must admit that months before I read this book I wanted Judas to be the love interest, though I knew Basil would be. And I did like Basil. But I liked Judas more. But even so, I did love the romance between Basil and Morgan. Basil really loves her and wish to protect her. A bit unsure how she feels, but I know she really cares for him. They are cute together. Though I still think she would be cuter with Judas :D Wouldn't even mind a triangle, lol.
But there is not a love triangle in this book. At all. Which kind of broke my heart, to be honest. Hih. The story in Perfect Ruin is awesome. It's a bit different and I adored it. I loved reading about the Internment, though we don't get to know that much about it. But I understood most of it on my own, sort of. Internment is a floating city in the sky, which reminds me very much of Castle in the Sky, a Studio Ghibli movie. Which is all kinds of amazing. I was able to imagine this book so well :)
Anyway. There is a lot of things happening in Perfect Ruin. There are evil people. Good people. Heartbreaking things. But most of all this was an exciting book that I could not stop reading and it was very easy to read. I just wish it wasn't over. Won't be able to wait a whole year for the second one.. <3 We get to know a lot about the place in this book. About the rules and the King and the Princess and the Prince. Those were some awful people, yet I kind of liked them. Heartbreak about the Prince. Sniffs.
Everyone on Internment is betrothed when they are born. To the man they must marry. I'm not sure how I felt about it. It is wrong, clearly. But it was also sort of cute, because we only saw couples that were good together. Anyway. The plot in this book is about a murder. And a murderer. And a whole bunch of awful things that happens. There is mystery and action and a bit of romance. It's an amazing book.
My favorite character in this book was Judas. He's awesome. I have been wanting to read about him for months, and he was everything I wanted him to be. Though not a love interest, damn it. But I have hopes for book two :D But even so, Judas is an amazing character and I loved him so much. The first word he speaks in this book.. HEARTBREAK. And so good. I loved reading about him, just wish there was more. I also loved reading about the little girl, Amy. She was cute and broken and I adored her a lot.
I shouldn't say more about this book. Just that Perfect Ruin is an amazing first book in a series. I cannot wait to read more from this world and characters. This book has it all and I loved every part of it. Though it is heartbreaking most of the time. Loved it. The plot is awesome, though I didn't talk that much about it, it is perfect. Think you will all love this book when you read it. It's beautiful. And ohh, the cover is so gorgeous in person! And the hardcover is amazing. Also, I adore Lauren. She's the best.
